John Switalski, Student Therapist
Hi, I’m John!
If you’re navigating stress, anxiety, relationship concerns, or parenting challenges, you are not alone and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.
Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or quietly unsettled by a sense that something is not quite right.
I’m a graduate student completing the final stage of my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.
I offer a warm, supportive space where you can slow things down, feel understood, and begin making sense of what you are experiencing.

What It’s Like to Work With Me
When you come to therapy, you deserve a space that feels supportive, flexible, and centred around you.
Our work together is shaped around you. Your sessions focus on what matters most to you and we move at the pace that feels just right for you.
In our sessions, you can expect support that helps you:
Feel heard, respected, and genuinely understood
Explore your experiences with curiosity and compassion
Recognize strengths you may not yet see in yourself
Take small, practical steps that lead to real, lasting change
The goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable showing up as you are, even when things feel confusing, heavy, or hard to put into words.
Sound like it could be a good fit?

I work with people experiencing:
-
When anxiety or stress takes over, it can feel like your thoughts will not slow down and your emotions are always close to the surface.
I work well with clients who are:
Living with ongoing anxiety or chronic stress
Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or constantly on edge
Struggling with anger or intense emotional reactions
Caught in cycles of overthinking or self-criticism
Together, we focus on understanding what is fueling these experiences and developing practical tools that help you feel more grounded, steady, and in control.
-
Living in a world that isn’t designed for how your brain works can be exhausting. You may feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or constantly trying to keep up, even when you’re doing your best.
I work well with clients who are:Living with ADHD, autism, or other forms of neurodivergence
Struggling with focus, organization, or follow-through
Feeling overwhelmed by sensory input, expectations, or daily demands
Experiencing burnout, frustration, or shame from masking or overcompensating
Wanting support around relationships, work, school, or parenting as a neurodivergent person
Together, we focus on understanding how your brain works, identifying what actually supports you, and developing practical strategies that fit you — not forcing yourself into systems that were never built with you in mind.
-
Relationships can be a source of connection and meaning, but they can also be deeply confusing and painful.
I’m here to support people who are:
Struggling with communication
Feeling disconnected, resentful, or emotionally distant from a partner
Repeating the same relationship patterns and not sure why
Navigating boundaries, trust issues, or people-pleasing
Frustrated with family relationships
Together, we’ll focus on making sense of your relationships, identifying patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and developing ways you can feel more aligned and authentic in your relationships.
-
Parenting can be deeply meaningful but also incredibly demanding!
I support parents who are:
Feeling stressed, burned out, or emotionally exhausted
Navigating behavioural or emotional challenges with their children
Struggling with self-doubt, guilt, or frustration in their parenting role
Wanting practical support alongside emotional understanding
With experience working closely with children and families, I offer a space for you as the parent to talk openly, feel supported, and explore strategies that feel realistic for your family and your life.
I also offer support for:
Depression
Grief
Self-Esteem
Life Transitions
Identity
Anger Management
Support You Can Feel Confident In
As a graduate student, my client work is closely supported. I receive weekly clinical supervision and I’m completing a comprehensive training program in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, under the direct mentorship of the practice’s Clinical Director, Kelly Vick. This means that your therapy is thoughtfully guided every step of the way.
In addition to my graduate education and training, I bring years of hands-on experience supporting people and families through complex life situations.
I have experience:
Supporting individuals in moments of emotional distress and crisis
Remaining calm, present, and grounded in high-pressure situations
Working closely with children and families in structured, supportive settings
Collaborating with caregivers and professionals to support meaningful change
This background shapes how I work with clients today, with patience, steadiness, and a strengths-based perspective.
